Meeting for the very first time speaking Kinyarwanda

When you meet someone for the first time, this is how you greet them:

Muraho

Muraho [Moor-uh-oo] simply means “Hello”. Simply offer a handshake as you say “Muraho”. The response to that can simply be “Muraho” again, or often “Muraho Neza” [neeza].

Picture this scenario. You arrive at someone’s home, and there are 5 people. You go through each offering a handshake and saying “Muraho”. If you want to say Hello to all of them at once without shaking hands to everyone, you can simply wave your hand in air, saying “MURAHO”

You see, MURAHO can be used anytime, formal and informal settings.

Muraho

Muraho, is a plural of “Uraho”. When you use Muraho with one person, it is a sign of respect. Use “Uraho” When only addressing to one person and informally. It is discouraged to use Uraho
